I have received numerous emails from incoming freshman interested in joining our organization which is fantastic. I wanted to take this time to address some common questions individuals have been asking me:
1. What specific things do you look for in tryouts?
As far as technique goes , we look at leaps, double turns, and kicks as a base. Many of our members have abilties beyond this point, however those particular areas are what we require. We also look at overall performance, energy, ability to pick up choreography etc.
2. What is the practice schedule like?\
Typically, we hold practices three times a week. Most of our practices are in the evenings (for example 7:00 - 9:00 or 8:00 - 10:00) in order to accomidate everyones class schedule and to avoid members missing frequent practices. Because the Fall season is shorter, we typically practice twice a week. However, at any time, captains are allowed to schedule additional practices or cancel practices, which you will be notifiied for in advance. Additional practices will be held during Homecoming and also in the event of any additional performances not indicated on the schedule.
3. I plan to get involved in other organizations on top of my course load? Will this interfere with my responsibilities as a member of the Gannon Dance Team?
The answer to this question is up to you! The key is time managment. The majority of our members are involved in several organizations on top of extremely difficult course loads. If selected as member of the Dance Team, you will recieve a contract that is clear about what we expect of you. We understand there may be times where conflicts will arise, and that is ok. What we ask is that you treat our organization as a priority and make sure you are attending practices, games, etc., abibding by the rules, and letting us know ahead of time if there are any scheduling issues.
These are just some of the main questions I have been asked, however I encourage anyone with questions to continue to ask them. We are happy to talk with you at anytime!
We have updated our calender here on the site with dates and times of games and events we will be perfoming! We also have been working hard to prepare for the start of the 2013-2014 season. Thank you everyone for your ongoing interest and support!
